Our History

Our History

Description of the Past:

In 1999, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the City of West Covina, the city decided to place a float entry into the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, CA. From 1999 through 2003, the City of West Covina was responsible for paying the full cost of the float.  The Foundation was responsible for providing volunteers to decorate the float.

Starting in February 2004, the Foundation became fully responsible to pay all the costs associated with the float and decorating the float.  Each year, through the dedicated efforts of our volunteers, community businesses and individual donations, the Foundation has succeeded in its goals.

During the latter part of 2004, the Foundation recognized that there was an opportunity to expand the direction of the Foundation to reach out to the community and use the Rose Float entry as a catalyst to promote other collaborative community projects.

In addition to the float decoration, this would include youth scholarships, mentoring, educational and hands-on programs with our youth, and the tapping into resources to promote volunteerism throughout our community.
