How much does it cost to produce a float? Most floats range from $100,000 to $300,000; however, the major sponsors can spend much more.

What are the average weigh and height of floats?  Floats weigh between 5,000 to 80,000 pounds and can reach a height from 17 feet tall to 100 feet tall.

What are the mechanics of the floats?  Our floats, built by Charisma Floats in Irwindale, are powered by a 350 Chevy engine, have power steering and power breaks.

Tell us something about the Decoration material used on the floats….All material on the float must be natural. Yet, some of the other interesting points are as follows:

  • 1 to 1 1/2 tons of dry materials are used on floats
  • Approximately 100 different types of dry materials are used
  • Approximately 100 different varieties of flowers are used
  • Flowers are grown mainly in the Carpinteria area but they come from 10 to 15 different countries from around the world including Thailand, Costa Rico, Israel, Australia, and Holland
  • All of the roses and carnations used by Charisma Floats come from Ecuador
  • We have the flowers in hand 24 to 48 hours from cutting in the fields
  • 5,000 to 50,000 roses are used on the floats
  • Thousands of stems of carnations, mums, daisies, and orchids are also used

How many people view the Tournament of Roses Parade?  The West Covina Rose Float Foundation float is seen in more than 100 countries by 400 million people in addition to the 1 to 1 1/2 million people who are on the street on New Year’s Day.
